This month we are commemorating Culture Month as a tribute to all of the different kinds of artists that surround us. This month we will talk to rappers, dancers, painters, cultural shop owners, radio broadcasters and the whole lick. We will examine what culture means to them, as well as where is it going from here. A lot of the time, art is one of the first teachers in the community, so we are going to see who these people are behind the art and define their motivations. Seku Ture, the first president of Guinea, once said that “culture is stronger than the gun,” so we want to see who these weapons are being used against. Also, we’re featuring this panel in light of corporate media’s campaign against “The Stop Snitching” campaign that has popped up on shirts and in rap lyrics all over Amerikkka, as well as the racist, sexist radio broadcaster Imus’ recent remarks about Black women. We have to use our culture to fight those that impose the oppressive conditions in which we live.
