For over 25 years, the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police has sought to have Mumia executed. The malicious and vindictive persecution has been a continued battle by the government against a legacy of struggle whose origin began in the Black Panther Party. Mumia had been an esteemed journalist and BPP member, and because of this he became a target of the FBI Counter-Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO). Mumia is innocent. Like many BPP members who were COINTELPRO targets, Mumia has languished in prison but never succumbed to or been defeated by the system seeking to destroy that legacy of struggle. We all know that Mumia is innocent of the charges lodged against him. We all know others have confessed to those charges. And we all know that his conviction was the result of coercive and perjured testimony, that the prosecution withheld exculpatory materials and that he did not receive a fair trial. Similarly, the New York 3 and the Angola 3 suffered this type of malicious and vindictive persecution, and today the San Francisco 8 face charges that stem from continued COINTELPRO-type persecution. Because we know what truly happened in Mumia’s case and that there is documented proof that he was a COINTELPRO target, we, the SF8, extend our uncompromising solidarity and support to Mumia Abu-Jamal. We demand the State of Pennsylvania exonerate Mumia of all charges and release him from prison immediately. Signed, San Francisco 8 Don’t miss a special broadcast of Hard Knock Radio with Anita Johnson and Davey D from the U.S. Social Forum in Atlanta featuring a panel on the San Francisco 8 – with Cynthia McKinney, Kathleen Cleaver, Soffiyah Elijah and Claude Marks.
