The Central Pacific District Convocation of the United Holy Church of America, the oldest black Pentecostal organization in the U.S., will host its Second Annual Convocation at the San Francisco Christian Center, 5845 Mission St., San Francisco, on Aug. 22-24.
Introduced to San Francisco in 1934, the church is now under the leadership of Bishop Elijah Williams. Presiding over the Central Pacific District Convocation, covering Northern California, Oregon and Washington, is Bishop Kenneth O. Robinson.
The week's meetings will feature training classes in the areas of outreach and church growth. The highlight will be the worship service on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 7:30 p.m., an ecumenical service which will be attended by local elected officials and local church and community leaders. The speaker will be Bishop Donald Greene of the San Francisco Christian Center.
Thursday at 7:30 p.m. will be praise and celebration night, featuring the Northern Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. The convocation will conclude on Friday with the Annual Address of Presiding Bishop Robinson at 10 a.m. These services are open to the community.
