An interview with Big Moe and Trig..(dot-dot) of Gutta Mob and Fatty Atty Records

There's really no introduction needed when you speaking on the Gutta Mob and Fatty Atty Records. Coming from Fillmore, a hood in the city of San Francisco that's known for its gangster and gutta mentality, the Gutta Mob and Fatty Atty records has opened the door for independent rappers to express their talents.

Although they originate from Fillmore, Gutta Mob and Fatty Atty Records has made a name and respected reputation for themselves throughout the Bay Area. I sat down for a minute with Big Moe and Trig..(that's Trig-dot-dot) to see how these gutta guys from the ghetto built this music empire for themselves and how they continue to keep their legacy going. Hold on to your seats ... because it's about to get gutta ...

Apollonia: So, what's the business? What's been going on with the Gutta Mob and Fatty Atty family lately?

Trig..: Man, we been doing a lot of recording in the studio, trying to keep this music movement going and keep our names ringing in these streets. We just been pushing a hard line in these promoting real tough.

Apollonia: How does your neighborhood influence your music?

Trig..: Right now, the neighborhood is kind of bad due to all the violence and killing that have been going on lately. But we in the streets, and when you in these streets living the life you gotta do what's needed to eat. Right now, I'm just pushing the hard line trying to make it better for the whole fam.
Apollonia: That's what's up. How did you guys start up Gutta Mob and Fatty Atty records?

Trigg..: Well, me and my partner D-Gutta from the Gutta Mob pulled me in from the streets and he put me down and came to me wanting to start a group called the Gutta Mob. We clicked up from that day on, and we been doing this for like six years strong.

Big Moe: Basically, we started the Gutta Mob movement following behind Scalen and my cousin Messy Marv. We had been watching him for a long time do what he do in this music industry and we wanted to do the same thing.

So, instead of jumping on the same label as he was on, we decided to go straight forward and start our own label, which is how Fatty Atty records was invented. The name Fatty Atty goes back in the days when I was a young homie; everybody used to call me fatty atty. We started the Fatty Atty/ Gutta Mob movement and started hitting these streets hard doing what we had to do.

We've watched a lot of legends do this and make it from our hood. Everybody think we from Hunters Point, but we from Fillmore. We just be over in Hunters Point doing what we do. Some people have that pass and some don't, but we respected in every hood.

We observed legends from Fillmore, like JT, San Quinn, Rapping 4-Tay and Huey Mc and we took notes. We observed everything and concentrated on their come-ups and mistakes. We watched their mistakes and learned from that, so we wouldn't continue making the same mistakes that everybody else had made.

The best thing for us to do was hit these streets and that's why we are called Gutta Mob. It's Gutta or Nothing. Everybody is from the streets and we ain't gone call it the ghetto; we calling it the gutta. In every hood in the world there's a gutter. The name was just something catchy that everyone can jump to, and it's been circulating everywhere to the point where people in other places want to use the name as well.

Apollonia: I was checking out your myspace.com page and I noticed that there is a Gutta Mob in the Midwest (Chicago). Can you tell us a little bit about how you hooked that up?

Big Moe: Some catz out of Chicago name Mellow and Pooh Bear gave us a call after checking out our websites and listening to some of our music. The wanted to use the same name because they felt it and they feel like they relate to the same situations we speaking about in our music.

I told them that if they wanted to use the same name, we can put it together and start a whole movement. We hooked up, sat down at the table and just got it together. They in the Midwest, so we call them Midwest Gutta Mob.

Whoever blow up first, we all together. If they do it, that's good and if we do it too, that's even better. We trying to get this everywhere, just like the Clik Clak gang. We a part of this whole Bay Area movement. We just tryna establish our own movement within all of these movements that are going on.

Apollonia: When I see you guys at functions, there are always a group of you. Who does the Gutta Mob consist of?

Trigg..: The Gutta Mob consist of me and my boy D-Gutta. We have other artists in the family who ride with us, like my boy Kev Kelly, Matt Black and Coco Chanel. We also have the Clik Clak gang and the Midwest Gutta Mob. Basically Gutta Mob is a click from the gutter, and we have a mob of supporters standing behind us.

Apollonia: Can you tell me about some of the albums you have coming out?

Trigg..: We got an album out now in the streets, called "Gutta Mob: Gutta or Nothing." We have a lot of nice beats and artists from the Bay, like FAB, San Quinn and Stress from the Federation on there. We have so many albums and music out right now, it's crazy.

Big Moe: Right now, we just finished "Gutta Mob 3." We like three steps ahead of the game, so we basically have started our own movement. Most independent artists don't even have a studio to go to. We got our own lab, own studio, own equipment. We turn the doors whenever we want to turn the doors. The only thing we looking for now is that nice big break. For someone to really just open the doors for us, on a major type level, and we will do the rest.

We have a bunch of nice albums. For example, we just finished "Gutta Mob 3," D-Gutta's solo album, Trig..'s solo album, Matt Black the singer's album, Coco Chanel's album is done, Kev Kelly's album is done and we're currently working on this compilation called "Up All Night: The Bay Area Edition." That compilation features artists from around the Bay, like J-Stalin, Eddie Projects, The Gutta Mob, Clik Clak Gang. We bringing 4-Tay back on this one, JT, San Quinn, Ya Boy, Big Rich, Boo Banger. We just trying to push the truth out so people can hear it because this is what it is.

There are a lot of niggas in the street that are hungry, so we just trying to push this Bay Area movement, so everybody will know around the world that the Bay Area got musical talent as well. That way, they will be able to support us. The Bay Area is supporting everybody else and we all got kids and we all got to eat. We spend a lot of money on other artists and music outside the Bay Area, and we need that support as well. We want everyone around the world to know that we hustling as hard as everybody else.

Apollonia: Where can someone go get a copy of your album or check out some of your music?

Big Moe: Everybody can come check us out at myspace.com/guttamob or at fattyattyrecords.com. Our music is circulating everywhere right now, from FYI on the internet, to Rasputin stores and Best Buy stores. They can even find us at Wal-Mart stores. And if they don't have the album in the stores, they have us in the computer, where you can look it up and find a store close to you to buy our music. We everywhere right now.
