![]() On Nov. 12, a Housing Authority truck dumped this trash and more outside the Boys and Girls Club at Alice Griffith public housing, which lies between the Hunters Point Shipyard and Candlestick Park. Mayor Newsom is eager to demolish and privatize this complex, which is home to hundreds of families. Photo: Stephanie Hughes There have been an alarming number of evictions in Hunters Point as well as Alice Griffith and, as we believed we all had the right to a grievance hearing, that right has also been taken away. One of the many families awaiting eviction here in the Alice Griffith housing development went through the whole process that is required for a grievance hearing only to be denied by an employee of the San Francisco Housing Authority, the same man who chose to dump truckloads of trash into our Boys and Girls Club, a man who refers to us as "you people." Redevelopment: Satan I am here to say that we the people will no longer be treated as inhuman. We are people - mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins. Though we may not have the money that others have, we do have heart, spirit and love. Most families are in crisis and in need. To live, most of us live imprisoned within our own community's bloodied streets - bloodied both from a broken system and a people that have been stripped of culture and being. When you have taken away our ability to raise and discipline our children, we think you have set up our families so that you may repeat the slavery mentality in this generation. You have modernized slavery by stealing our children and turning them over to CPS (Children's Protective Services). You are assisting in the killing of our men - supplying them with drugs and guns and keeping them on probation and parole, if not in prison. Then you decide to kick a mother out of public housing when she has done even what you have failed to do: provide a safe environment. A decree must have been issued, the same decree of the Pharaoh way back when: Kill the slaves' first born males because you fear the uprising.
Place a fear factor on the people and take their homes and community. This is what we see and hear. God bless you and yours. Stephanie Hughes is president of the Acorn Alice Griffith Tenants Union.
