I regret to say that one of my students, Alexandria Warren, was hit by two cars and killed last Thursday. She had just made 15. She was a sassy, sharp minded poet and youth leader full of wisdom and an abundance of joyful life. Alexis was my most rapidly improved student academically, behaviorally, socially and in so many other ways. I give thanks to the Most High for linking our paths.
Of course her mother did not plan for her death and is struggling to pay the immorally high costs for memorial services. She needs $2,700 more by Friday. I acknowledge that times are tight for most and this is last minute, but for those who can spare even the smallest donation, I know Alexis’ mother and family would be forever grateful.
An account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank named “Alexandria Warren, minor child of April Wilson, No. 8504168793.” Any questions can be directed to Jacquelyn Rogers at (707) 342-3035 or to me at (707) 384-4448.
Visitation is Friday, April 18, 3-7 p.m., and the funeral service is Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m., at Wilson & Kratzer Mortuary, 45 Fourth St., Civic Center, Richmond 94801, (510) 232-4383.
As I wrote in Alexandria’s guest book at the Contra Costa Times (www.legacy.com/ContraCostaTimes/GB/GuestbookView.aspx?PersonId=107720509), “Her impressions on people were tremendous and are lasting. She taught me to be a better teacher and she learned how to be the excellent student she was born to be. Her passion for learning and love for teaching made her sharp, but humble.”
