They came from far and near to pay homage - University of California-Berkeley law students who helped petition her court cases, the Kennedy clan, human rights activists, and Haitian friends and supporters of Sonia Pierre who boarded buses in New York City at 5 a.m. to bear witness and celebrate in the Caucus Room of Washington's Russell Senate Office Building on Nov. 17.

Port-au-Prince – Our driver dropped us off yesterday at the entrance to Cité Soleil. Jean-Michel (not his real name) and I headed on foot into this massive neighborhood in Port-au-Prince. It was 2 o’clock in the afternoon and the sun felt great.

In Haiti, more than 1,000 people marched through the streets of Port Au Prince Thursday to protest the presence of U.N. forces in the country and to call for the return to power of the democratically elected former President Jean Bertrand Aristide. Aristide lives in exile in South Africa after his ouster in a U.S.-backed coup nearly three years ago.
